We all have dreams. Our dreams change, evolve and transmute but what remains constant is that there is always a dream…if nothing, the dream is to have a dream! And what truly makes life beautiful, is that the difference between your dreams and reality (mostly) can be bridged – by the achievement of it. And while there is nothing more satisfying than achieving your dream, the path to it may not be the easiest one you have ever had to tread. But where there is a will (or a dream), there is generally a way.

The secret to achieving your dream
It’s not rocket science, but innumerous studies have shown that the one sure-fire way to get your dream to manifest is to visualise it.
What does visualisation even mean?
Simply put, ‘visualisation’ means forming a mental image of your dream. But in the context of dream-achievement, I personally believe that visualisation means a mental manifestation of that dream – complete in all respects – with shapes, color, form and feeling. So complete, that you feel that if you open your eyes, it might be right there in front of you.
But why is it important to mentally manifest a dream? How does that help to achieve it. Here’s why:
a. It defines the boundaries of your dream
Dreams are hazy by definition. Strange things happen in them. They change directions mid-way and live in strange landscapes. Visualising your dream forces you to challenge that haziness and pick one manifestation. It forces you to give shape to the vague aspirations in your mind and define what your dream genuinely looks like. Otherwise how will you recognise it, when you do achieve it?

b. It helps you identify the paths towards it
It is only when you clearly know where to go, that you can start finding a path towards it. Or to recognise that path when you chance upon it. Many of those paths will be dead-ends or detours, but the visualisation of your dream will give you a lodestone that will always guide you back on track.
c. It gives you courage when things are bleak
The path to achieving your dream will be full of setbacks and obstacles. It would hardly be a dream worth achieving if it was so easily obtainable, right? But that doesn’t make these setbacks any easier to deal with or weather. Your visualisation is what will stand you in good stead in such trying times. It is whenever that you are down and depressed that you need to visualise your dream again in your mind’s eye. And see it getting clearer with every passing second – the shape of it, the mind-bending clarity of it, the heart-wrenching detail, the beauty of it’s perfection!
So, in conclusion, it doesn’t really matter how large, impossible or unachievable your dream is. Or how small, simple and humble your dream is. Because a dream is a dream and all dreams can and are achieved the same way. By visualisation, by being able to flesh and out and see your dream in it’s complete entirety so that it is real to you.
So, visualise it now
In order to climb the mountain, you must be able to see the peak you aspire towards. Or to get the girl, you must be able to see her indescribably lovely face. And to get that corner office, you must be able to see your name on the door.
So, if you have to get to achieving your dream – whatever it might be – you must be able to visualise it. To see that dream in all it’s glorious and impossible beauty! And when you can see it, is when you will have taken the first and most important step towards achieving it!
